Backbone anyone?

Wednesday, May 27th, 2009

Backbone is like thisNowadays, how many people have the backbone to stand up for mistakes that ones’ committed?  Recently, there were tons of incidents that I have encountered in current labor force where people made mistakes but they never stood up and dealt with the problems - instead, blaming others, changing subjects or in the worst case, making false claims and lies about things that was not true at all.  My job is about people relations, so I tend to get people in more “accelerated” way.  In other words, I see people with more darker sides than most people do.  Give human civilization another 5,000 years, I bet we will see invertebrate human form emerging in every world corner.

Why there is no more cover letter?

Wednesday, April 29th, 2009

I am getting a bit more concerned about nowadays, applicants never bother much to compose a well written cover letter before sending their resumes along.  Occasionally, I did receive resume and “memo” looking cover letter: “Hey man, I am looking for a job, give me a ring.” and the fun part was, these candidates’ expected salary range = $80K USD and up.  Speaking of resumes, I received more and more PHOTO attached or GIF/JPEG “artworks” resumes…I don’t mind if those photos are professionally taken or those art works are well rendered - the poorest things are - they are too low-resolution, too dimmed, too yellow, too sloppy…Anyway, long story short, if you want a potential employer to look at your application, please have a decency to write or at least “copy” a professional cover letter along with your resume.  Nothing worse than having bunch of U-Grads submitted their ill-prepared package in such a care-free fashion.
